Quay Quarter Tower - Fred Holt, Architect, Partner, 3XN, Denmark - Architecture and Design EXCLUSIVE

Quay Quarter Tower has been coined a ‘building full of firsts’. While its height, 216 metres, or floor levels above ground, 54 with two below, aren’t revolutionary, Fred Holt and the team at 3XN have made sure it is undeniably humancentric and environmentally-friendly. The structure will be the first Australian commercial high-rise building to be built around two-thirds of an existing building’s core to reduce carbon emissions, equivalent to 10,000 Sydney to Melbourne flights. It will also be built in an atrium-cut to allow ultimate sunlight through, have a two-tiered deck, new open spaces and a diversification of work space within the building. If anything sums up Quay Quarter Tower it’s how Holt described the design process: ‘from the inside out’.

Fred Holt joined 3XN in 2010 and became a partner in 2015. Prior to joining 3XN, Fred was integral to the design and further development of a variety of projects while working in both London and NYC. As part of his previous experience, Fred designed and helped develop the state of the art, James B. Hunt JR. Library at North Carolina State University while at Snøhetta. Having been involved with such an advance project from the early programming stages through construction documents, Fred brings a level of experience to projects that have a proper balance between design and its necessary development.
